BACKGROUND

Nearly five years ago NBC introduced some of the biggest losers television has ever seen- and audiences couldn't have been more enthusiastic about embracing them and cheering them on. "The Biggest Loser" will enter its sixth season this fall and has grown to become one of the most popular programs on TV. Not only has Biggest Loser touched millions of Americans- but now reaches more than 50 countries, with places like Australia and Guam hosting their own series.

Each season the show introduces teams of people battling serious weight problems. During the fifth season, the show had ten teams of two couples competing to win; in season 5 they introduced a teams-of-two couples format; in season 6 they will host a family edition.

In the beginning, the teams are competing to win a cash prize of $250,000 and the title of Biggest Loser; but after a few weeks, they start to discover themselves and become more interested in getting healthy. The player who loses the highest percentage of body fat during the program wins. But ultimately, they all go home big losers who've won even more.

As the popularity of the show increases, so does the audiences' interest in trying it for themselves. The Biggest Loser Club now makes all of the expertise and tools used by the contestants available to you at home. Trainer Bob Harper, a renowned personal trainer, says that those following the home-version likely will not realize the same results as those on the show, simply due to circumstance. The contestants are in a highly focused environment for 12 weeks, without influence of typical daily stressors like children, work and chores.

Trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper have each published books with additional fitness and diet insight. During season five, Biggest Loser partnered with Bistro M.D. to provide the Biggest Loser Meal Plan, a home delivery meal service with healthy, chef and doctored designed menus.

I am a 48 yr old women, 310lbs. who was lucky enough to be a stay at home mom. Now my teenage daughters are nearly graduating from high school and I want to go back to work, however since I havent worked in sooo long, my weigh gain has taken a toll on my self esteem and my looks. Please I a person who's NOT finacially set (actually struggling), I applied for medical. I dont know what requirements are needed to be on such a show, or that you folks even read this stuff. If you can conform a middle age woman who feels young on the inside but surrounded by being wieghed down I'd appreciate an acknowledgment either way. Sincerely Linda posted Sep 19th, 2008 12:49 pm

Where's Paul? I wanted to see how successful he was. I guess he gave up, that's too bad. Jillian is my idol. I would love her to kick my butt into shape. I would love to be on the show and find the true me again. I'm somewhere under all this fat and need help, I can't seem to get out of my slump. I need someone to motivate me and keep me going. The show is a great motivation to want so much more out of my life than being overweight. Please help, I would love to be on the show. Consider someone from North Dakota. posted Apr 17th, 2008 7:08 am

I have watched the biggest loser every season since it started. I would love to be a contestant. But being a single mother it is not too easy to leave my son and my job...I really need to lose the weight...I have hypertension and high cholesterol. I am 4' 11" and I weight 195 pounds. I have tried to do it on my own but I find it so hard to stick with it. I don't really have much of a support system. It is hard for me if I don't have someone to push me....I would love someone like Jillian or Bob to push me everyday. I want to look and feel better.
The show this season was awesome...I was so inspired by all the women and their determination . To see a women finally win was the best thing ever....I hope someone will read my comment and consider me as a contestant on an upcoming season. I would love to see my sons face when I reached my goal. thanks.

I would like to be a contestant on the next show.
In school I played all kinds of sports and also water skiied a lot. But, after graduating High School and going to work there was no coach to push me to get up and get moving. I have a 10 year old son, that watches me like a hawk(Like the way I eat) and I too am a single parent, he is at his normal weight for a young man. But, I'm 5'4" and weight over 350 lbs. I need the help to lose this weight so my son does not lose ME. posted Apr 17th, 2008 7:08 am

OMG! The season finale was awesome, everyone looked great! Poor Roger, had he not be chosen as a finalist he would have one the $100,000 from the kicked off group. Instead, he leaves empty handed (of money) but does he ever look great. He needs to stop losing and just maintain so he does not look gaunt. Way to Go Roger... AS FOR ALI,,, SHE IS AWESOME! Congratulations. posted Apr 16th, 2008 10:12 am
