iTrain

Use that MP3 player for fitness. The iTrain will be music to your ears.

BACKGROUND

iTrain is a subscription-based program in which personalized workouts are downloaded to your MP3 player of choice. You're coached over the headphones while you participate in any number of exercises, including treadmill, elliptical, cycling, strength training, pilates, yoga and ballet workouts.

Hollywood fitness expert Grace Lazenby, who has trained celebrities and has her own exercise video series, is the brainchild behind iTrain. She partnered with an entertainment industry executive who helped her create her newest product, which has garnered the attention of Courtney Cox and the Pussycat Dolls.

iTrain aims to “democratize personal training,” by talking you through workouts created by fitness experts. It was also created to prevent the usual boredom that ensues after you have been exercising to a particular routine and have found yourself yawning during the workout. With a variety of exercise programs to choose from, it packs versatility with accessibility.

PRO
  • Much less expensive than having a personal trainer
  • Requires self-motivation
  • iTrain has a number of different workouts that you can choose from
  • Interacts with any MP3 player
  • Personalized plans
CON
  • Requires self-motivation
  • Requires that you have access to a computer, an Internet connection and an MP3 player
  • Not a specific exercise program per se
DIET and NUTRITION

iTrain also has an iTrain Diet, that you can download. It is a six-week diet makeover that includes tips on how to eat and exercise and is supposed to allow you to lose 5-10 pounds in two weeks.

EXERCISE

Each work out that you choose includes the trainer’s voice providing you with step-by-step instructions. These instructions are accompanied by music, which help to keep you motivated while you move. The exercise instructions are also available on a video format or through a PDF file, both of which can be downloaded to your computer. These visual instructions illustrate how to perform the exercises and display the positions of each of the movements.

iTrain’s team of fitness specialists create exercise programs based upon their own area of expertise such as strength training, yoga or dance. In addition, the iTrain workout menu is updated each month.

EXPENSE

A 12-month package is $79.99. A one-month package is $9.99 and a per workout package costs $.99 to $11.99 per download. Gift certificates are also available.

CONCLUSION

iTrain is a portable guide to stay in shape with its easy downloads and step-by-step instructions. This new wave in fitness might be a great solution for those who don’t leave home without their MP3 player. If you’re someone who gets bored easily of a workout routine, iTrain’s ever-changing menu of workouts will keep things new and fresh. But if you’re someone who needs more hands-on instruction to motivate you or if you’re not a gadget freak, you may want to search elsewhere for an exercise program.
